Georges St-Pierre says he weighed 170.4 lbs at UFC 158

Ultimate Fighting Championship Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre told La Presse that he believes he weighed in at 170.4 lbs.

So actually that means Georges St-Pierre was officially 0.4 lbs over the normal Championship limit of 170 lbs. St-Pierre was quiet for quite a long time but now he spoke to press and told them that he believed his weight was 170.4 lbs.
Here a rough translation of the report (via Bloody Elbow):

They came to us just before the weigh-ins and even I was surprised. They told us they were going to be rounding (down to the nearest pound). I was as surprised as Nick Diaz," St. Pierre said Thursday in an interview with The Associated Press.

GSP said he was not sure of his exact weight, but he believes that it amounted to 170.4 pounds. The Quebec Board then rounded his weight down to 170 pounds, the limit for the March 16 bout.

Wow, just as people were starting to forget the weigh-in controversy, St-Pierre ignites the fire!

GSP talks about Hollywood, Nick Diaz, Johny Hendricks

While Georges St-Pierre is busy filming his movie, Johny Hendricks will be training already and have a head start. But in the interview below, St-Pierre said he's already training.

UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre is set to face Johny Hendricks for his next title defense, on an event that will be named later. That will give St-Pierre plenty of time to film his movie role as "Baltroc the Leaper" in the upcoming "Captain America" sequel titled "Winter Soldier". Hendricks is under the impression he'll be the only one training hard while his opponent is relaxing in his trailer, sipping cappuccinos.

But GSP has an update for Hendricks:

I'm already training. I train all the time. I heard Hendricks say 'Oh, when he's doing the movie, I'll be training.' Well, I have some news for him, I'm already training now. I trained two, three days after the Nick Diaz fight, I was in the gym training. The movie has nothing to to with the end of my career. I love what I do right now.

Video maker files counterclaim over UFC 158 weight allowance video

The person who made the video about the Quebecois authorities wouldn't be measuring decimal places during UFC 158 weigh-ins has filed a counter-claim with Youtube after the UFC tried to get the video offline.

The person who captured a UFC executive's "off the record" conversation about weigh-in rules with Nick Diaz, told MMAjunkie.com that he's filed a counter-claim to a DMCA request filed by the UFC. Nick McDermott wrote on Twitter:

Apparently UFC doesn't want the .9 allowance video to be seen and blocked it. I got a strike on my account because of it. I sent a counter claim and I'm waiting on them to respond.

McDermott said his video was reinstated after he complained to YouTube, which suspends accounts with three DMCA "strikes." But several days later, the clip was again taken down. He then filed a counter notification, which is a legal request to reinstate content in instances were it is "removed or disabled as a result of a mistake or misidentification of the material to be removed or disabled, such fair use.

Zahabi: GSP might have only few years left in the UFC

In a recent interview with Sherdog, Zahabi explained why GSP’s training camp can’t be sustained for several more years of competition.

UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre is only 31 years old, but the reason why he can't continue for so many years is because of his devastating knee injury that had him sidelined for 1 year and a half. And when you get older, it's easier to get hurt and get the same injury, again and again. It could also explain why GSP injured his achilles heel in his last training camp, when he was training to fight Nick Diaz.

Zahabi explained why GSP’s preparation can’t be sustained for several more years of competition (via Sherdog).

His training camps are very difficult. I’ve done a lot of training camps. I could tell you the energy, time and money and hours spent doing a GSP training camp is ridiculous. It’s borderline insane. There’s a lot of effort going into preparing him for his fights. Can he live this lifestyle for another four or five years? I don’t know. Because it’s not a balanced lifestyle. It’s not a balanced lifestyle for him.

He’s giving up a lot of free time and leisure time and experiences he could be having in life to maintain his title, to maintain this excellence. It’s a difficult thing to do. He’s going to have to make that choice one fight at a time. Does he want to go through another training camp? Right now at this time, yes, for sure. There’s no doubt in my mind he wants to do another one, but down the line, two or three more training camps, is he still going to want to do it? That’s up to him. Does he still have the fire and the passion? We’ll see.

St-Pierre is expected to put his 170 lbs title on the line against number one contender Johny Hendricks. But we still have to wait some time before that happens because Georges St-Pierre would like to take some time off and that has, most likely, to do with the injuries he sustained in his camp before the Diaz fight.

UFC 158 Late rule change for GSP vs Diaz

Apparently they don't count the decimal in Canada, both Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz were allowed 0.9 allowance for the UFC 158 title fight.

When it comes down to the "golden boy" of the UFC, it seems like they are allowed to change the rules at the last minute before the weigh-ins. According to the MMA rules, the fighters are allowed to weigh 1 pound over the limit, if it's a non-title fight. But when it's a title fight both fighters need to come in at the weight limit. So both Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz were allowed to weigh 170lbs maximum.

So was this a rule changed for Georges St-Pierre because he was struggling making weight because he was sick? The conversation about the weight limit change was "off the record" and you can watch the video about this above.

Now we don't know what Georges St-Pierre's actual weight was, it could've been 170,2 lbs or 170,9 lbs. We don't know, because the weight was being announced as 170 lbs.

The conversation between Senior Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs and Assistent Counsil for the UFC Michael Mersch and the Diaz camp:

Mersh: "They're going to allow you and Georges to have an extra hour, just in case somebody doesn't make it. But the good news is, they don't count the decimal. If you're 170.2 it's 170. If it's 170.9. it's 170."

Team Diaz: "Why didn't we know that before?"

Mersh: "Should be fine, hopefully, other than that. Just so you guys are in the loop, if there's ..."

Team Diaz: "Why didn't you tell us that yesterday?"

Mersh: "Well, no, it's just something to keep in mind. That's kind of an off the record type of thing. But keep that in mind. As long as he's under 171, we should be good. But, there is a time period afterwards, for you and Georges only. All the other fighters have to make it the first time. Just letting you guys be in the loop, okay? Good luck!"

Team Diaz: "That's a loophole... A Canadian loophole."

Apparently they didn't tell Carlos Condit the same thing when he fought GSP for the title at UFC 154.

GSP fought injured against Nick Diaz

Just a few days after UFC 158, Firas Zahabi revealed Georges St-Pierre was not 100% when he fought Nick Diaz for the UFC Welterweight title which took place at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on March 16, 2013.

After the UFC 158 title fight, Nick Diaz and Cesar Gracie were making excuses all over the place for his performance against Georges St-Pierre when they fought last saturday. Georges St-Pierre won a unanimous decision over Nick Diaz scoring 50-45 on all the judges' cards. You can watch the video highlight here. A few days later, after the event, it came out that George St-Pierre did all that to Nick Diaz while being sick and injured.

GSP's trainer Firas Zahabi told TVA Sports:

"Fortunately, there were no tears. That said, it was very tense and very painful, but not enough to cancel the fight. We wanted to keep it a secret since Diaz is an expert submissions ankles.

"Our concern was that the tendon tears during combat. For the moment, we do not know if he aggravated his injury, but it certainly will undergo treatment in the coming weeks for the tendon can heal properly. "

In addition to being hurt, St-Pierre was feverish during the fight against Diaz.

"It is physically and mentally exhausted. I think he will need at least six months of rest before returning to the Octagon."

Georges St-Pierre will need to take the next 6 months off, so the wish for Johny Hendricks to fight in August will most likely not happen

Nick Diaz arrested?

Today March 18, 2013 Nick Diaz posted a photo on Twitter that appeared to show that he was detained by a police officer.

It seems like Nick Diaz is realy arrested, OR he's a very good troll. He posted a photo on Twitter that showed him on it, being "detained" by the police. He wrote this text with the picture: "Fuck they got us :("
Although the tweet was quickly deleted, McKinley Noble posted a screenshot:

Who should be next for the UFC 158 winners

With UFC 158 behind us, one of the most fun things to do for the fans is to make match-ups for future events. These are the fights to make for the winners/losers of UFC 158's main card.

Nate Marquardt:
With 2 losses over Jake Ellenberger and Tarec Saffiedine, Marquardt dropped out of the top 10 welterweights. Maybe a match with Rick Story would be a good match to make. Story defeated Quinn Mulhern in the first round by TKO and would matchup good with Marquardt.

Carlos Condit:
Even though a lot of people thought Carlos Condit won his fight with Johny Hendricks, the judges decided in the favor of "Bigg Rigg". Now, even with 2 straight losses Condit still has lot of opponents which he could fight. A rematch with Nick Diaz is what a lot of fans want to see, but I see Condit fighting Tarec Saffiedine next. It would be a good test for the Belgian fighter to see what he's made of.

Nick Diaz:
After his fight with GSP, he said he was going to retire. But we've heard this talk before. If he chooses not to retire I would match him up with Robbie Lawler. Robbie Lawler won his last fight with Josh Koscheck in spectacular fashion delivering serious punches which knocked him out. It would be interesting for Diaz because Lawler and Diaz both like to brawl.

Jake Ellenberger:
A great matchup would be Demian Maia. I would like to see Maia prove himself against a dangerous striker, and that's what Ellenberger is. One interesting thing to see aswell is if Ellenberger can handle a superb BJJ artist in Demian Maia.

Georges St-Pierre vs. Johny Hendricks:
Obviously this is the matchup to make. Hendricks has four straight win against top guys now, and he is the legit number one contender. Georges St-Pierre told everyone in the post press conference that he wants to fight the best guy, and Hendricks is the best for now. It would be interesting to see what gameplan St-Pierre will come up with to fight against a powerfull strike with great wrestling.

Nick Diaz wants rematch with Georges St. Pierre, who hits like a girl

UFC 158 is over, and so is the talk. Well that's not the case if you are Nick Diaz. Last night (March 16, 2013) Nick Diaz lost a one-sided decision against Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre at UFC 158 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. But that isn't keeping him from asking for a rematch.

Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre defeated Nick Diaz in the main event of UFC 158 last night (March 16, 2013) at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Nick Diaz lost all five rounds on the judges scorecards and didn't even try to anything to St-Pierre which led to a one-sided defeat.

In the post fight interview with Joe Rogan, Diaz said he would retire again. But in an interview with Ariel Helwani, he's already asking for a rematch. He also said Georges St-Pierre hits like a woman and is too scared to punch hard:

"I want a rematch. Georges St-Pierre, if you'd give me a rematch, I‘d appreciate it because I could beat you. ... I'm trying to retire. I'm trying to get out of this gig. But I'd like a rematch. I think I can stop the takedowns and beat him. I'm not hurt. He hits like a woman. He hits like a girl because he's too scared to let go to get a real punch in."

The chances of Nick Diaz actually getting the titleshot are almost zero, because Dana White said that Johny Hendricks is the number one contender now that he defeated Carlos Condit in the co-main event of last night's show.

Georges St-Pierre also stated in his post fight interview with Ariel Helwani that he wants to fight the best guy there is at the moment, and that's Hendricks now.

"I want to fight the best guy and I think that's Johny Hendricks right now. ... I don't know when. I haven't taken a break since I came back from knee surgery. I need a vacation."

Former UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Hughes was the guest for a Q&A at the UFC 158 weigh-ins.

Matt Hughes is perhaps best known as the 170-pound champion some time ago, with some very good fights against Georges St. Pierre, Frank Trigg and B.J. Penn. In 2010, the former NCAA All-American was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.

Below are my predictions for UFC 158: Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz at The Bell Centre, Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz

A lot of people think that Nick Diaz will be GSP's biggest challenge to date, but I think after this Saturday we will see endless takedowns from GSP and Diaz getting frustrated because he wants to rid MMA of boring controlling wrestling. GSP will take Diaz down whenever he wants to and pass to half guard and try to avoid Diaz's guard. The fight is most likely going to distance unless Diaz is able to lure GSP into his game, which is to stand and trade with him. But I think GSP is too smart for that and will play his own game.

Prediction: Georges St-Pierre def. Nick Diaz by Unanimous Decision

Carlos Condit vs. Johny Hendricks

First of all, I feel bad for Johny Hendricks. While I still think Hendricks can knock anybody out, I just think Condit is a bad match-up for him. Condit is very good at gameplanning and he isn't willing to play anybody's game as we all saw in the Diaz fight. Carlos Condit is hard to hit and he is very good on the feet and even when he gets taken down, his guard is excellent and so are his sweeps. On the other hand we have "Big Rig", as we've already seen in some of his fights, he can knock anyone out cold! (Remember Jon Fitch, Martin Kampmann). I hope for Johny Hendricks that he will come out on top, because it's for the number 1 contender spot but I think Condit will win this one.

Prediction: Carlos Condit def. Johny Hendricks by Unanimous Decision

Jake Ellenberger vs. Nate Marquardt

I'm actually not quite sold on Marquardt coming to the UFC just yet. I didn't look so good in the Tyron Woodley fight even though he won and he also didn't look good against Tarec Saffeidine where he lost. Marquardt is very large for the devision and he is a good striker but the power that Ellenberger presents is just crazy. And on top of that, Ellenberger has good offensive wrestling, the only problem could be his gas tank. But still I think Ellenberger will have the advantage and knocks Marquardt out.

Prediction: Jake Ellenberger def. Nate Marquardt by TKO/KO

Nick Diaz unsure if he'll pass UFC 158 drug test

Nick Diaz has the MMA world shocked again. He already apologizes himself if he doesn't pass the next drug test.

On March 16, 2013 (this weekend) Nick Diaz will fight Georges St-Pierre for the UFC Welterweight Championship in the main event of UFC 158.

But if Nick Diaz fails his next drug test, it could be the last strike and Nick Diaz could be cut from the UFC according to Ariel Helwani.

What would the UFC do if Diaz won the belt and he tests positive again? That would be the 3rd time they catch Diaz with drug-related stuff. And you would say someone would learn after 2 times but this is what Diaz said at todays press conference:

"I think [at UFC 143] I tested for a metabolite or a nanogram, it was hardly [a trace] so I just did a little more than I did last time so, sorry if I don't pass the test, but I think it should work out. I've passed plenty of them before, unless they just weren't testing me. I wonder how much they test people around here (glancing at St. Pierre)."

Dana White says Nick Diaz tried to fight GSP in a hotel

Dana White says that Nick Diaz attempted to track Georges St. Pierre down in a hotel. Which is the reason why GSP disliked Nick Diaz so much.

The reason why Diaz got the title shot is known to a lot of people in the MMA community. He did not deserve the title shot, but he got under Georges' skin with the trash talk and he talked his way into a title shot. Diaz is coming of a decision loss against Carlos Condit and a medical suspension for a failed drug test.

Dana White told the story on Jim Rome's radio show and explains where GSP's hate is coming from:

"Nobody has talked about this, I haven't said anything about it, but at one of the fights, the one where he really starts calling Georges out, he was chasing Georges around the hotel and like yelling at him and stuff. Georges thought he was going to try to fight him in the hotel. He was just waiting for the elevator doors to open and see Nick Diaz,"

"Like at the last fight where he said all that stuff after his last fight when he said all that stuff about Georges, he was really messing with Georges bad at the fight, like trying to fight him at the hotel. That really pissed Georges off."

Nick Diaz has the chance to dethrone GSP this saturday, but will he be able to do so? GSP intends on beating Diaz so bad that he retires again.
