If GSP wants Anderson Silva next, Johny Hendricks will have to wait!

gsp vs silva picture

GSP can face Anderson Silva next, if he asks for it though.

The talks for superfights start again, in the video below Dana White says Johny Hendricks will have to wait again if GSP asks for Anderson Silva. That is if Silva wins his next fight against Chris Weidman on July 6, 2013 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

I am literally going to call Georges St-Pierre today and I’m gonna see what he wants to do. If Jones beats Sonnen, then we gotta wait for Anderson. Anderson’s gotta beat Weidman.

If Georges says to me, ‘I want to fight Anderson Silva,’ do you think I’m gonna go, ‘No you’re not, you’re fighting Johny Hendricks?’

If St-Pierre lost that fight, he’d still be 170 lbs champion. He’d go down and fight Hendricks for the title.

Dana White expects to add more women's divisions to UFC

ronda rousey vs cat zingano

Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White expects to add more women's divisions to UFC in the near future as he was impressed with the 50 women who tried out for The Ultimate Fighter 18.

Currently, there's only a 135 lbs division for women in the UFC and we've only had 2 women's fights inside the Octagon. The first fight was between current Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey against Liz Carmouch, a bout in which Rousey succesfully defended her belt. After that Cat Zingano won by way of TKO against former Strikeforce Champion Miesha Tate at The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale. And when asked if he expects more women's divisions to the UFC he says:

If you think about it, when we started this company, we had heavyweights, light heavyweights, middleweights and welterweights. That was it. When we brought in the 155-pound division, everybody was like, This is crazy. They're too small. Nobody will ever watch.

The evolution of this sport as it's continued to grow, we've been adding weight classes, and the sport keeps getting bigger. There are more and more talented guys in all those weight classes. The same thing will happen with the women.

I think when you got into the 135-pound division, I knew there were enough fights for a year and a half, two years. You think that after it starts to generate some excitement and interest that other women will pop out of the woodwork. I think over the next couple of years, we're really going to see a big boom.

Do you guys think more divisions for Women's MMA will work in the UFC?

ilir latifi picture

Ilir Latifi replaces Alexander Gustafsson to fight against Gegard Mousasi in Saturday's UFC on FUEL TV 9 main event.

I'm sure nobody knows who he is but Ilir Latifi is from Sweden and training partner of Gustafsson. UFC president Dana White tweeted about the new fight just a few minutes ago:

Latifi comes into his UFC debut on a 3 fight win streak. His most recent loss was against Bellator MMA light heavyweight tournament winner Emanuel Newton in 2011. Mousasi's original opponent Alexander Gustafsson was forced out of the bout with a cut, which was confirmed by the Swedish Athletic Commission this morning.

Alexander Gustafsson officially out of UFC on Fuel TV 9 fight

alexander gustafsson picture

Alexander Gustafsson is officially out of his fight with Gegard Mousasi at UFC on Fuel 9 because of a cut suffered in training.

Finally we know something official, even though Dana White said everything could continue as planned, Gustafsson will not be medically cleared for his fight with Gegard Mousasi. Ariel Helwani posted a piece of the statement released by the supervising commission:

The SMMAF Medical Committee has today reviewed the circumstances regarding Gustafsson and his injury. The SMMAF Medical Committee recognizes that a competitor cannot be medically cleared earlier than the day before the match. However, bearing in mind that a correct medical examination that met the regulatory demands has been performed, nothing in the SMMAF regulations hinders the SMMAF Medical Committee from making a decision to stop Gustafsson from competing. As it is clear that Alexander Gustafsson will not be fit to compete as planned and cannot be medically cleared on Friday the 5th of April, the SMMAF Medical Committee has today decided that Alexander Gustafsson will not be allowed to participate in the planned match on April 6th.

No replacement has been found yet, but you should look for updates regularly on MMA Europe. Stay tuned!

Dana White says Gustafsson vs Mousasi is still on

alexander gustafsson picture

Dispite the news that broke out, that Alexander Gustafsson had suffered an injury during training, Dana White says the UFC plan to continue the event as scheduled.

Earlier it was reported that Alexander Gustafsson suffered a cut during training and was unable to be cleared for this friday's medical check-up. While his camp confirmed the injury and three doctors from the SMMAF said that the cut was bad enough to need 3 week's healing time before Gustafsson would be ready to fight, Dana White says the bout will continue:

Let's hope the fight is still on as everybody wants to see this fight.

Vince McMahon challenged Dana White to a match

dana white picture

UFC president Dana White revealed last week that WWE boss Vince McMahon tried to set up a match between them at a WrestleMania event. If White wasn't interested in a fake bout, Vince was also game for a real bout.

Last week during his press rounds to promote UFC 158 in Montreal, UFC president Dana White made an interesting revelation to former NHL player Denis Gauthier on RDS

"Let me tell you something, I'll tell you this and I've never said this before ever in an interview anywhere, and if Vince hears this, he's going to go nuts, okay? Vince is too old, which he won't think he is and he'll go crazy, and he wanted to do that one time. Vince wanted to fight me, I swear to god. He called me up and said, 'let's do it. We can either do it in the UFC or let's do it at WrestleMania.' And I said, 'You are crazy, man.' Vince is... a lot of people talk about Vince, I always have said it and I'll say it again: I respect Vince very much but Vince is too old to be fighting."

Now Dave Meltzer of MMA Fighting has revealed the back story behind the out-of-left-field challenge:

The suggestion by McMahon was actually made on or around Oct. 15, 2010, actually stemming from what at the time McMahon was looking for as his main event for WrestleMania 27, which took place on April 3, 2011 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. It ended up drawing 61,617 fans. McMahon, who had used Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali, Lawrence Taylor and Floyd Mayweather Jr., on WrestleManias in the past, was looking to match up then-UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, with The Undertaker, as the main event.

White nixed the idea for the obvious business logic of not wanting his champion doing pro wrestling at the same time they are trying to promote his real fights. ... But McMahon thought himself against White could also be a headline event on the show.

The idea was for a pro wrestling match, but McMahon, a bodybuilder who was 65 at the time, actually said if White felt it wasn't the right thing for him to do a staged fight, they could still do the match - for real.

"I laughed and said, 'You're crazy, you're out of your mind,' White said when the subject was brought up a second time after UFC 158 by Ariel Helwani on Fuel TV. "In the interview (the night before), I said Vince was too old. We're both too old. I'm too old, too, just for the record.

In the end McMahon managed to talk Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson into main eventing WrestleMania.

Dana White says Nick Diaz tried to fight GSP in a hotel

Dana White says that Nick Diaz attempted to track Georges St. Pierre down in a hotel. Which is the reason why GSP disliked Nick Diaz so much.

The reason why Diaz got the title shot is known to a lot of people in the MMA community. He did not deserve the title shot, but he got under Georges' skin with the trash talk and he talked his way into a title shot. Diaz is coming of a decision loss against Carlos Condit and a medical suspension for a failed drug test.

Dana White told the story on Jim Rome's radio show and explains where GSP's hate is coming from:

"Nobody has talked about this, I haven't said anything about it, but at one of the fights, the one where he really starts calling Georges out, he was chasing Georges around the hotel and like yelling at him and stuff. Georges thought he was going to try to fight him in the hotel. He was just waiting for the elevator doors to open and see Nick Diaz,"

"Like at the last fight where he said all that stuff after his last fight when he said all that stuff about Georges, he was really messing with Georges bad at the fight, like trying to fight him at the hotel. That really pissed Georges off."

Nick Diaz has the chance to dethrone GSP this saturday, but will he be able to do so? GSP intends on beating Diaz so bad that he retires again.
