UFC 158 Predictions by MMA Europe

gsp vs diaz picture

Below are my predictions for UFC 158: Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz at The Bell Centre, Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz

A lot of people think that Nick Diaz will be GSP's biggest challenge to date, but I think after this Saturday we will see endless takedowns from GSP and Diaz getting frustrated because he wants to rid MMA of boring controlling wrestling. GSP will take Diaz down whenever he wants to and pass to half guard and try to avoid Diaz's guard. The fight is most likely going to distance unless Diaz is able to lure GSP into his game, which is to stand and trade with him. But I think GSP is too smart for that and will play his own game.

Prediction: Georges St-Pierre def. Nick Diaz by Unanimous Decision

Carlos Condit vs. Johny Hendricks

First of all, I feel bad for Johny Hendricks. While I still think Hendricks can knock anybody out, I just think Condit is a bad match-up for him. Condit is very good at gameplanning and he isn't willing to play anybody's game as we all saw in the Diaz fight. Carlos Condit is hard to hit and he is very good on the feet and even when he gets taken down, his guard is excellent and so are his sweeps. On the other hand we have "Big Rig", as we've already seen in some of his fights, he can knock anyone out cold! (Remember Jon Fitch, Martin Kampmann). I hope for Johny Hendricks that he will come out on top, because it's for the number 1 contender spot but I think Condit will win this one.

Prediction: Carlos Condit def. Johny Hendricks by Unanimous Decision

Jake Ellenberger vs. Nate Marquardt

I'm actually not quite sold on Marquardt coming to the UFC just yet. I didn't look so good in the Tyron Woodley fight even though he won and he also didn't look good against Tarec Saffeidine where he lost. Marquardt is very large for the devision and he is a good striker but the power that Ellenberger presents is just crazy. And on top of that, Ellenberger has good offensive wrestling, the only problem could be his gas tank. But still I think Ellenberger will have the advantage and knocks Marquardt out.

Prediction: Jake Ellenberger def. Nate Marquardt by TKO/KO

Nick Diaz unsure if he'll pass UFC 158 drug test

nick diaz picture

Nick Diaz has the MMA world shocked again. He already apologizes himself if he doesn't pass the next drug test.

On March 16, 2013 (this weekend) Nick Diaz will fight Georges St-Pierre for the UFC Welterweight Championship in the main event of UFC 158.

But if Nick Diaz fails his next drug test, it could be the last strike and Nick Diaz could be cut from the UFC according to Ariel Helwani.

nick diaz drug test

What would the UFC do if Diaz won the belt and he tests positive again? That would be the 3rd time they catch Diaz with drug-related stuff. And you would say someone would learn after 2 times but this is what Diaz said at todays press conference:

"I think [at UFC 143] I tested for a metabolite or a nanogram, it was hardly [a trace] so I just did a little more than I did last time so, sorry if I don't pass the test, but I think it should work out. I've passed plenty of them before, unless they just weren't testing me. I wonder how much they test people around here (glancing at St. Pierre)."

Dana White says Nick Diaz tried to fight GSP in a hotel

Dana White says that Nick Diaz attempted to track Georges St. Pierre down in a hotel. Which is the reason why GSP disliked Nick Diaz so much.

The reason why Diaz got the title shot is known to a lot of people in the MMA community. He did not deserve the title shot, but he got under Georges' skin with the trash talk and he talked his way into a title shot. Diaz is coming of a decision loss against Carlos Condit and a medical suspension for a failed drug test.

Dana White told the story on Jim Rome's radio show and explains where GSP's hate is coming from:

"Nobody has talked about this, I haven't said anything about it, but at one of the fights, the one where he really starts calling Georges out, he was chasing Georges around the hotel and like yelling at him and stuff. Georges thought he was going to try to fight him in the hotel. He was just waiting for the elevator doors to open and see Nick Diaz,"

"Like at the last fight where he said all that stuff after his last fight when he said all that stuff about Georges, he was really messing with Georges bad at the fight, like trying to fight him at the hotel. That really pissed Georges off."

Nick Diaz has the chance to dethrone GSP this saturday, but will he be able to do so? GSP intends on beating Diaz so bad that he retires again.

UFC 158: Condit says that Hendricks is 'more dangerous version' of Dan Henderson

Carlos Condit believes that UFC 158 opponent Johny Hendricks and Dan Henderson have a lot in common, but Hendricks brings more to the table.

Carlos Condit had risen through the ranks of the WEC and UFC without many setbacks until he was defeated by UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre at UFC 154. The 28-year-old was expected to rematch GSP's teammate Rory MacDonald at this weekend's UFC 158 card but MacDonald pulled out. Immediately, Johny Hendricks called up the UFC and asked to fight Condit and was granted the opportunity. Condit spoke to Damon Martin of Bleacher Report about how much he'd get out of a win over Hendricks:
"The reward could be pretty sweet. He's real high profile, he's pretty much cleared out the division, and he's definitely the No. 1 contender. A win over him would put me right back in the No. 1 contender's spot."

He was also asked to make the comparison between Hendricks and MMA legend Dan Henderson, who is also a wrestler with devastating power in his hands:
"There are some similarities there but I think the difference is Hendo is towards the end of his career, he's not as versatile as he used to be. Ultimately he kind of is a one-trick pony. Hendricks, he does have that in his arsenal, but he has a lot of other things. He's still athletic, he still moves really well. He's a more dangerous version of the one-punch, KO wrestler that Hendo is."

That's a pretty solid assessment to me. While Hendricks hasn't proven to have elite MMA wrestling yet either, Henderson's MMA wrestling has always been pretty overrated. Nonetheless, a win for Condit might not get him another immediate shot at the UFC welterweight title, but at least he understands what he's up against on Saturday night.

Nick Diaz 'close' to losing title shot

ANAHEIM, Calif. – UFC President Dana White doesn't want to scrap the UFC 158 headliner of Georges St-Pierre (23-2 MMA, 17-2 UFC) vs. Nick Diaz (26-8 MMA, 7-5 UFC), but on Saturday night he said if the challenger doesn't change his ways, that may be exactly what happens.

"I hope we don't come to that," White said following Saturday night's UFC 157 post-event press conference. "I'm really close. I don't want to be. I don't want to do this. It sucks."

Diaz is currently scheduled to face welterweight champ St-Pierre at next month's UFC 158 event in Montreal. The reason for the potential change is eerily similar to the series of events that saw a planned October 2011 bout scrapped. That planned UFC 137 fight was tossed aside when Diaz failed to show for a pair of pre-event press conferences.

This time around, the former Strikeforce champ missed three separate interview sessions, leaving a video crew hoping to produce a "UFC Primetime" series without a subject to tape.

"He did not (show up) – neither did his brother Nate," White said. "And we spent over $50,000 in production costs and guys cruising around Stockton, Calif., and not interviewing people.

"It's not funny. We're very cool and very lenient in a lot of ways. Look at this company. Look how we are. We let a lot of things fly. But that's just absolute bulls---."

Diaz's attorney, Jonathan Tweedale, initially claimed his client did not, in fact, miss any scheduled appointments. However, White said he has since spoken with Tweedale and the two are now on the same page. He also said Diaz has since complied with video requests and that his brother, Nate, is also expected to do the same.

Should that all go according to the current plan, then the much-anticipated contest will not be in jeopardy. But for now, White seems a little tense, especially on the heels of the commendable media efforts of UFC 157 headliners Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche.

"We've treated Nate and Nick with respect," White said. "Anytime they come in and want to negotiate their contracts, we do the things, we're good to everybody. At least give us the respect to show up and not blow $50 grand on not showing up for interviews you're supposed to do.
Well, first of all, I'm not surprised. Nick Diaz is smoking too much pot and does not realize he needs to show up for work! Nick Diaz is a great fighter but he needs to get his mind straight and show up for these kind of things. Otherwise Dana White is going to scrap his ass from the card and Johnny Hendricks will be more than happy to take his place!

Dana is the boss and you do what the boss asks you to do! If Nick Diaz misses one more thing that has to do with promotion the GSP vs. Diaz fight, Dana needs to cut his ass and show him who's boss. Because Nick Diaz does everything he pleases and he does not give a shit about the fans, otherwise he would show up every time he is needed to.
