UFC on Fox 7: Henderson vs. Melendez predictions by MMA Europe

henderson vs melendez picture

Below are my predictions for UFC on Fox 7: Benson Henderson vs. Gilbert Melendez at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.

Benson Henderson vs. Gilbert Melendez

I don't think Melendez is as good as a lot of people think he is. Don't get me wrong Melendez is definitely a top 5 lightweight, but I think Henderson is the better one of the 2. Henderson will be too big and too strong for Melendez to handle. I expect Henderson to control Melendez for 5 full rounds to win the decision.

Benson Henderson def. Gilbert Melendez by Unanimous Decision.

Frank Mir vs. Daniel Cormier

I don't see any way how Mir can win this. I think Cormier will come in to fight with the perfect gameplan and stay away from Mir's jiu-jitsu game. I think Cormier will try to keep the fight standing and try to pick Mir apart, Cormier is definitely a lot faster than Mir is and that will be his key to win this.

Daniel Cormier def. Frank Mir by TKO/KO.

Nate Diaz vs. Josh Thomson

Actually I haven't really seen anything from Thomson just yet, so I don't know how he fights. But I do know he was the former Strikeforce Lightweight Champion and Nate Diaz was the UFC Lightweight title eliminator. I'm just guessing now and I'm picking Diaz for the win.

Nate Diaz def. Josh Thomson by Submission.

Matt Brown vs. Jordan Mein

I really like Matt Brown and Jordan Mein looked really great in his first UFC fight but I think Brown will take the win.

Matt Brown def. Jordan Mein by TKO/KO.

Chad Mendes def. Darren Elkins by TKO/KO
Francis Carmont def. Lorenz Larkin by Submission
Myles Jury def. Ramsey Nijem by Decision
Joseph Benavidez def. Darren Uyenoyama by TKO/KO
Tim Means def. Jorge Masvidal by Decision
T.J. Dillashaw def. Hugo Viana by Decision

Frank Mir says Daniel Cormier can't finish fights

frank mir picture

Frank Mir will face Daniel Cormier on April 20, 2013 at UFC on Fox 7. And now that the bout is coming closer, Mir starts to exchange words.

For his upcoming bout against Daniel Cormier on April 20, 2013, in San Jose, California at UFC on Fox 7, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir started to train with Greg Jackson in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

He changed his training camp, but the one thing that didn't change is his talk in between fights.

Frank Mir was unimpressed with his opponents ability to finish fights. Cormier won a 5 round decision against Josh Barnett and after that he finished Dion Staring by way of TKO in the 2nd round. Although Cormier finish Staring by TKO, Frank Mir says that Cormier can't finish fights unless the referee stops the fight for him.

From his conversation with MMA Fight Corner:

"I pretty much know the guy. He has extremely strong, efficient wrestling. I think he throws his hands pretty fast and without abandon. I don't think he's the most technical boxer in the world, I don't think he even thinks he's the most technical boxer in the world. He's definitely not JDS, but who is? On the ground though, it really showed me, let's face it, if I had the same guy on the ground, fight would have ended pretty quickly. He wasn't able to put the guy away through a lack of finishing abilities, through a lack of finishing moves. So that's one thing that actually surprised me. I thought he couldn't finish Josh because of Josh's abilities, but then I realized 'No, he doesn't really have much finishing ability'. He can catch you with a punch, let's face it, every heavyweight over 200 pounds has that ability to finish a fight if he catches you. But you got to have the ability to finish with the submission, you know definitive ground and pound, where you actually finish somebody off against the cage and it's menacing, not just finally the referee's like 'Well, you know, I guess the guy's had enough. You really can't put him away, let me help end this fight for you.'"

The bout between Mir and Cormier was initially scheduled in Cormier's final Strikeforce fight, but he suffered a training injury and was forced out of the bout.

Who do you got winning this fight?
