UFC 162: Anderson Silva vs. Chris Weidman

On behalf of the UFC, Chris Weidman went to the New York state capitol on Wednesday to lobby for mixed martial arts in the Empire state. Perhaps they sent him there after experiencing his efforts first-hand, as it appears that his own previous, personal lobbying for a middleweight title match with Anderson Silva has finally paid off.

According to New York Newsday, Weidman was told by UFC chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta that his request to challenge Silva has finally been accepted, in a fight that will be targeted for UFC 162 on Fourth of July weekend. The event, which will take place on July 6, is to be held in Las Vegas, though the host venue is to be decided.

"Dream come true," Weidman told the paper. "Ever since I've been fighting, Anderson Silva has been the champion and I've been visualizing beating him. Now I have the opportunity. I have to make the most of it."

The 28-year-old Weidman is a perfect 9-0 in his career, but at the time of his fight with Silva, will not have fought for a year. His last bout was in July 2012, when he knocked out Mark Munoz with a standing elbow strike and some ground punches.

Since then, he's been hounding Silva and the UFC for a title fight, but for a time, it seemed as though he wouldn't receive. Late last year, he was linked to a UFC 155 matchup against Tim Boetsch, but eventually withdrew from the bout with a shoulder injury that required surgery. He told Newsday that he was 100 percent and had been cleared to resume training.

He will likely be considered an underdog in the fight as he attempts to become the man to end Silva's lengthy reign at the top of the middleweight division. Silva has never lost in 16 trips to the octagon, and has held the belt since defeating Rich Franklin in October 2006. Due to Weidman's pedigree as a Division I wrestler, along with powerful strikes and a durable chin, many feel that he has the qualities to challenge Silva in a way that no one but Chael Sonnen has been able to do during his dominant UFC run.

Today, Mark "The Hammer" Coleman announced his retirement on Facebook. He's having a hip replacement next Monday and he says he's done fighting. Even though Mark Coleman hasn't fought since his loss to Randy Couture on February 6 2010 at UFC 109, we didn't really know if he was even fighting again. But now we have our answer.
Total Hip replacement next Monday. Ouch.
The hammer is done fighting. I know been done. Just looking for some prayers.
I thank everyone who will help me get through this. Have to pay to play sometimes. Only regret is could have worked harder.
Love you all live your dream.

Mark Coleman started fighting in the UFC about 20 years ago and he was the UFC 10 and UFC 11 tournament champion. He was the first Ultimate Fighting Championship Heavyweight Champion and the Pride Fighting Championships 2000 Open Weight Grand Prix Champion. Frank Mir talks about Lesnar's feminine chest

Why is former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir still bagging on fellow ex-division titleholder Brock Lesnar, who retired from mixed martial arts (MMA) back in late 2011 to return to professional wrestling?

Because FUEL TV wants to know what goes on inside his mind when he watches their epic battle from 2008, when "The Brockness Monster" made his Octagon debut at the UFC 81 pay-per-view (PPV) in Las Vegas.

Frank Mir says:
"He flexed and I said, 'Man, you see how big his back is?' To see a guy who's six-four and that thick, and long muscles on top of that, athletically moving, I was impressed. It's funny how things hit you. I was like, 'I know why he got the tattoo! It was to take everybody's mind off the fact that he has boobs.' You know they kind of hang, when he jumps, they bounce up and down. So I thought, 'Oh, it's a diversion. Look at my dumb tattoo so you can keep your mind off my very feminine chest muscles.'"

Nick Diaz on GSP vs. Silva Fight

The UFC has released a new video about UFC Welterweight fighter Nick Diaz. In the videos above he talks about Georges St.-Pierre:
"I'll tell you right now, I want to fight the No. 1 fighter in the world. I've always said that. I want to fight the No. 1 fighter. Georges never said that. That's the only thing I've ever said negative about Georges, is that, if I were in his place, I would do more. I'd be asking for the Anderson Silva fight. I wouldn't let that blow away. Like, that's crazy."

Diaz will fight GSP in two weeks in Montreal at UFC 158.
