Struve aiming for top contender spot

If Stefan Struve wins at UFC on Fuel TV: Silva vs. Stann, Struve believes he would earn his place as a top contender and finally have his title shot in 2013.

Since debuting for the UFC in 2009, Struve is 9-3. The Dutchman currently racked up four consecutive victories inside the octagon and he is looking for his fifth straight win. However his opponent Mark Hunt is also on a three fight win streak, beating Cheick Kongo by TKO, Ben Rothwell by Decision and Chris Tuchscherer by KO. He was supposed to meet Struve in May of last year, but pulled out 10 days before due to injury. Mark Hunt has brutal KO power but Struve knows his size is unique in the UFC. Now he has to use it to his advantage.

"Anything can happen, so first I want to get my win [on Saturday]," Struve said. "Then we'll see what happens. If I win this fight, I'll be a on a five-fight win streak. I'm the only guy on a five-fight win streak, so I think I have a pretty strong bid to be the top contender."

Muay Thai legend Ramon Dekkers passed away

ramon dekkers

Even though this isn't MMA news, it's too important not to talk about:

BREDA - Muay Thai legend Ramon Dekkers (43 years) from Breda (Netherlands) suddenly passed away on wednesday afternoon. He didn't feel so well when he was training on his racebike. "The greatest Muay Thai fighter in the world has past away today."

Dekkers fell over with his bike in the tunnel at the intersection with the Emerparklaan. Emergency services (6 police cars, 3 ambulances and 1 helicopter) went there as soon as possible. Even some bystanders helped but CPR didn't work. The traffic was temporarily redirected.

The man from Breda was eight-time Muay Thai -and kickbox worldchampion. At the end of last century he was the most famous foreign Muay Thai fighter in Thailand. He even received Royal Honors in Thailand. Dekkers was the first foreigner who claimed the title Muay Thai fighter of the Year.

"Unbelievable, what a tragedy." says kickboxer Peter Aerts. "I was shocked, man. How is it even possible to die so young." Aerts and Dekkers knew each other 'very well'. "He was the absolute best in the world when I started. Ramon was an example for me and a super Muay Thai fighter."

The sudden death of Dekkers keeps the minds busy in the fighting world. Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Bas Rutten, born in Tilburg and now lives in America, does not hesitate about it: "Yes, it's true. The biggest Muay Thai fighter in the world has died today." The American UFC fighter Vinny Magelhaes twitters that Dekkers "was a legend". Colleague Duke Roufus believes that Dekkers has inspired a lot of people in training and fighting.

Facebook is blowing up at the moment. And today won't be the last day that people will talk about the legendary Ramon "The Diamond" Dekkers.
